Stone & Tile Finishing Solutions
Application Overview
Stone and tile installation demands specialized drilling and cutting tools that prevent cracking, chipping, and material waste. Tile installers rely on glass & tile drill bits for precision holes in ceramic and porcelain, diamond core drills for large openings (shower valves, toilet flanges, faucet cutouts), and diamond blades for clean straight cuts. Granite dry-hanging facade projects require precise anchor holes. Countertop fabricators depend on wet diamond core drills for sink and faucet cutouts in marble and granite. Zhonghuan supplies the full range of stone and tile tooling direct from the factory, with OEM and private-label options for distributors worldwide.

Application Scenarios
1. Drilling Porcelain Floor Tiles for Toilet Anchor Bolts
Material: Porcelain floor tile, 8-12 mm thick
Recommended: Glass & tile drill bit, 6-10 mm (spear-point carbide)
Notes: Drill without hammer action at under 1,000 RPM. Use masking tape on the surface to prevent the bit from skating. Keep the area wet with a sponge. Back with plywood if the tile is not yet installed to prevent exit-side chipping.
2. Shower Valve Opening Through Ceramic Wall Tile
Material: Ceramic or porcelain wall tile, 6-10 mm thick, over cement board
Recommended: Diamond core drill (dry, vacuum brazed), 50-65 mm
Notes: Use a guide template or suction-cup guide to prevent wandering. Run at 1,500-2,500 RPM with light pressure. Mist with water periodically to cool the diamond segments. If the tile is already installed, use a dust-shroud attachment.
3. Granite Dry-Hanging Anchor Holes
Material: Natural granite panel, 25-30 mm thick
Recommended: Diamond core drill (dry), 6-12 mm
Notes: Dry-hanging (curtain wall) facade installations require precise anchor holes on the back or edge of granite panels. Drill at controlled speed (2,000-3,000 RPM) with intermittent pressure to clear debris. Depth should be 15-20 mm for standard butterfly anchors. Avoid drilling through the panel.
4. Countertop Faucet Cutout
Material: Granite or marble countertop, 20-30 mm thick
Recommended: Diamond core drill (wet, sintered), 35 mm
Notes: Use a drill press or stand-mounted drill for stability. Continuous water supply is essential to prevent heat buildup and premature segment wear. Feed rate should be slow and steady. For sink cutouts, drill relief holes at the corners, then cut between them with a diamond blade or jigsaw with diamond wire.
5. Cutting Marble or Porcelain Tile to Size
Material: Marble or large-format porcelain tile
Recommended: Diamond blade, continuous rim, 180-350 mm
Notes: Use a wet tile saw for the cleanest results. Feed the material slowly and let the blade do the cutting — forcing causes micro-chipping. For field cuts on porcelain, a continuous-rim blade on an angle grinder with water works well. Turbo-rim blades cut faster in natural stone but leave a slightly rougher edge.
Selection Guide
- Wet vs Dry: Wet drilling is always preferred for holes over 20 mm in hard stone. Dry diamond cores (vacuum brazed) are suitable for porcelain/ceramic on-site work where water is impractical. Always use wet coring for marble and granite countertops.
- Speed Selection: Ceramic tile: 1,000-1,500 RPM. Porcelain tile: 800-1,200 RPM. Granite: 500-1,000 RPM. Marble: 600-1,000 RPM. Lower speed = less heat = fewer cracks.
- Preventing Cracks: Never use hammer mode on tile or stone. Start at an angle or use a guide template. Keep constant light pressure — let the diamond do the work. Always support the tile from below if it is not bonded to a substrate.
- Hole Size Logic: Under 14 mm = glass & tile bit. 14-80 mm on-site = dry diamond core. 25-200 mm fabrication = wet diamond core. Straight cuts = diamond blade.
- Blade Selection: Continuous rim = cleanest cut (tile, porcelain, marble). Turbo rim = fastest cut (granite, natural stone). Segmented rim = not recommended for tile (causes chipping).
