What Defines a Wet Diamond Core Bit
A wet diamond core bit is designed around continuous water flow from the rig spindle, through an internal water passage, out at the cutting face. The water does three things at once: cools the diamond segments, flushes the cuttings as slurry, and suppresses respirable silica dust at the source. The segment formula — bond hardness, diamond concentration, kerf width — is tuned for these conditions and does not perform well dry.
For OEM procurement, the practical implication is that wet diamond core bits are a distinct product line from dry diamond core bits. The same engineering target (segment height, diameter, thread) does not automatically map across the wet/dry split. Bits sold as wet must support continuous water flow without restriction; bits sold as dry require different segment shapes for dust evacuation. We treat these as two SKU families in the same OEM catalogue.

Water Flow Test — What Buyers Should Require
The single highest-leverage QC step for wet diamond core bits is a water flow test on every production sample. Procedure:
- Mount the sample bit on a calibrated fixture connected to a 5 bar pressurized water supply.
- Measure through-flow rate at the segment ring with a calibrated flow meter.
- Reject any bit measuring below 3 L/min at the agreed inlet pressure.
- Photograph the test setup and record the reading per QC sample.
A wet diamond core bit with restricted water flow overheats segments under load, reduces holes-per-bit by 20–40%, and (for US OSHA Table 1 programs) undermines silica compliance because the dust-suppression mechanism is impaired. Zhonghuan runs the water flow test on every QC sample and provides the reading per production lot.
OSHA Table 1 Wet-Cutting Path
For US construction programs, wet diamond coring is the default OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1153 Table 1 compliance path for concrete and masonry. The standard names "rig-mounted core saws or drills" and "handheld and stand-mounted drills" as covered tasks, and prescribes integrated water delivery as one of two engineering controls. Wet bits with unobstructed water passage satisfy this control directly — the bit, rig, and water supply are the same equipment that delivers compliance.
For OEM RFQs targeting US distributor channels, specify OSHA Table 1 compatibility on every wet line — water flow test, weld type documentation, and rig compatibility verification against named US-deployed rigs (Milwaukee MX FUEL, Hilti DD 150-U-22 or DD 200, DeWalt FlexVolt, Husqvarna DM 340). See our OSHA Table 1 reference for full implications.
