Application Scenarios

1. Plumbing Penetrations Through RC Slabs

Substrate: Reinforced concrete slab, 150-300 mm thick

Recommended: Diamond core drill 50-110 mm, wet use, universal segments

Notes: Scan for post-tension cables and primary reinforcement before coring. Use a rig-mounted drill for vertical and overhead work. Water collection ring or vacuum required for indoor work. Core diameter should match the pipe sleeve outer diameter to ensure a tight fit for fire-stopping.

2. Electrical and Data Cable Penetrations

Substrate: Concrete walls and floors, 100-200 mm thick

Recommended: Diamond core drill 25-63 mm, wet or dry depending on rebar presence

Notes: Smaller cable penetrations (25-40 mm) can be dry-cored in plain concrete. For reinforced walls, wet coring is safer. Multiple small cores side-by-side can create a slot for cable tray penetration. Always install fire-stop collars after cable installation to maintain fire rating.

3. HVAC Duct Openings

Substrate: Reinforced concrete walls and slabs, up to 400 mm thick

Recommended: Diamond core drill 127-200 mm, wet use, rig-mounted

Notes: Large-diameter cores for HVAC ducts require a rig-mounted drill with adequate torque. Use a water swivel and ensure continuous water supply. For thick walls, use extension barrels to reach full depth. After coring, the concrete core plug must be removed before duct installation.

Selection Tips

  1. Wet vs dry: Default to wet coring for reinforced concrete. Use dry only for small holes in unreinforced substrates.
  2. Segment bond: Soft bond for hard concrete. Hard bond for soft concrete. Universal when unsure or mixed conditions.
  3. Diameter: Match core diameter to pipe sleeve OD, not pipe OD. Add clearance for fire-stop collar installation.
