Application Scenarios

1. HVAC Duct Penetrations Through Masonry

Material: Brick, concrete block, hollow block

Recommended: TCT wall hole cutter, 100–150 mm

Notes: Use the SDS-Plus adapter with a rotary hammer in hammer-drill mode. For walls over 200 mm thick, drill from both sides to meet in the middle. Clear dust regularly to prevent the cutter from binding. Pre-drill a pilot hole to guide the cutter through the wall.

2. Curtain Wall & Facade Anchor Fixings

Material: Concrete, reinforced concrete

Recommended: SDS-Plus 2-cutter bit, 8–12 mm × 160–210 mm

Notes: Depth must match the anchor specification exactly — use a depth stop or tape marker. For chemical anchors in cracked concrete, drill oversize by 2 mm per anchor specification. Blow out dust with a hand pump before inserting anchors.

3. Concrete Pavement & Slab Cutting

Material: Concrete, reinforced concrete, asphalt

Recommended: Segmented diamond blade, 300–400 mm

Notes: For cuts deeper than 80 mm, make multiple passes increasing depth by 20–30 mm per pass. Use wet cutting where rebar is present to extend blade life. For control joints, a 3 mm blade width is standard. Ensure the saw guard is in place and wear respiratory protection.

4. Core Drilling for Service Penetrations

Material: Reinforced concrete, precast elements, stone

Recommended: Diamond core drill, 50–150 mm

Notes: Use a core drill rig with water supply for holes above 80 mm. Smaller diameters can be drilled handheld with a guide plate. For reinforced concrete, use a core bit with soft-bond segments designed for cutting through steel rebar. Anchor the rig securely and check for embedded services before drilling.

5. Channel Chasing for Conduit & Pipe Runs

Material: Brick, block, plaster, lightweight concrete

Recommended: SDS-Max flat chisel or channel chisel

Notes: Use a wall chaser with twin diamond blades for parallel cuts, then remove the center material with a flat chisel on an SDS-Max hammer. Chase depth should not exceed one-third of wall thickness in load-bearing walls. Connect dust extraction equipment to minimize airborne silica.

Selection Guide

  1. Identify the material: Brick/block → wall hole cutter or SDS-Plus. Concrete → SDS-Plus (up to 25 mm) or SDS-Max (above 16 mm). Reinforced concrete → diamond core drill. Cutting any masonry → diamond blade.
  2. Determine operation type: Drilling a hole → SDS bits, wall hole cutter, or diamond core. Cutting a line → diamond blade. Removing material → hammer chisel.
  3. Match hole size: Under 25 mm → SDS-Plus. 12–52 mm heavy duty → SDS-Max. 30–150 mm through-wall → wall hole cutter. 25–200 mm precise → diamond core drill.
  4. Consider depth: For walls thicker than 300 mm, choose extended-length bits or drill from both sides.
  5. Check for rebar: If reinforcement is present, diamond tooling is required — carbide bits cannot cut steel.
