The published pull-out and shear values assume one exact pilot diameter; the drill bit is the precision part that delivers it, not an afterthought. Why Diameter Tolerance Is the Product
Drill one size too big and the thread never bites — the screw spins in the hole with a fraction of its rated grip. Drill one size too small and it snaps off or won't drive. There is no recovery from a wrong hole on a structural fixing. That makes the bit a tolerance part: we grind diameter to an h-class tolerance and hold it consistent batch to batch, so every hole is what the screw's datasheet assumes. A commodity bit that drifts +0.3 mm as it wears is a stripped anchor waiting to happen.
Matched to the Screw, Not Guessed
Every concrete screw specifies its pilot-bit diameter, usually close to the screw's core diameter so the thread engages sound concrete. A Tapcon 3/16" screw takes a 5/32" bit and a 1/4" takes a 3/16"; fischer's FBS II is named by the bit it needs (FBS II 8 → 8 mm).
