How to Choose the Right Drill Bit for Anchors

The Golden Rule

For most expansion anchors in concrete:

Drill Diameter = Anchor Diameter (or slightly larger for sleeves)
  • Expansion Anchors: Drill hole matches bolt diameter exactly (M10 anchor = 10mm drill).
  • Sleeve Anchors: Drill hole is 2mm larger than bolt (M10 sleeve = 12mm drill).
  • Wall Plugs: Drill hole matches plug size, not screw size.
