4. Test a sample against a Bosch EXPERT 7X or Milwaukee MX4 equivalent diameter — drill 20 anchor holes in C30/37 concrete, measure hole diameter with a pin gauge set, and check consistency. A specification-parity OEM bit should produce holes within the same tolerance range as the branded reference.

When Not to Switch: Cases Where EXPERT 7X Is Still the Right Call

Stay with EXPERT 7X (or equivalent premium branded product) if:

• Your retail channel sells primarily on brand equity. A consumer or trade buyer standing in front of a Screwfix rack is paying for the Bosch name in part. Switching to OEM-branded product in that channel destroys rather than improves economics.
• Project specifications or tender documents specifically name approved brands. Many public infrastructure tenders in Europe list Bosch, Hilti, and a small number of approved suppliers. A spec-equivalent OEM bit may be technically identical but still non-compliant with the tender.
• Your volume is below the threshold where OEM direct makes sense. OEM factories typically have MOQ (minimum order quantity) requirements that only make sense for distribution volume, not small-contractor purchase.
• You lack QC capacity to verify specification compliance. If you don't have someone on your team who can request, read, and action material certificates and process documentation, switching to OEM sourcing without QC support is riskier than paying the brand premium.
