Wall Openings for Cables and Pipes
Cable and pipe penetrations call for a tool that can open a substantial hole while keeping the machine setup practical. DREPS HERCULES is a one-piece carbide-tipped core cutter developed for demanding concrete, masonry and stone work. DREPS lists a diameter range of Ø45–80 mm, including openings in sand-lime brick for external cable and pipe connections.
The working head combines cutting around the hole perimeter with material removal toward the centre. For installers, the value is an integrated wall-opening tool: the head, guiding feature and shaft work together during hammer drilling.
How the One-Piece Cutter Works
The head view shows carbide teeth around the outside, a central cutting and guiding area, and broad openings between the working regions. The outer teeth establish the hole boundary; the centre helps guide the start and break up material inside it. The open passages give debris room to leave the working face.
One-piece describes the integrated tool construction. The body is steel with carbide cutting elements; it does not mean that the whole head and shaft are solid tungsten carbide. The geometry suits breakthrough work where the finished opening matters more than recovery of an intact core.

Core Cutter, Hollow TCT Cup or Diamond Barrel?
Choose the cutting system from the wall material, reinforcement and finish requirement, then match the machine. The word “core” appears on several tool types that remove material differently.
| Tool type | Material-removal method | Typical selection priority |
|---|---|---|
| One-piece hammer core cutter | Percussive cutting and breaking across the working head | Cable and pipe through-holes in suitable concrete and masonry |
| Hollow TCT core bit | Carbide teeth cut an annular path around a central plug | Cup diameter, pilot arrangement and core removal |
| Diamond core drill | Diamond segments grind an annular kerf in rotary operation | Reinforcement, deeper coring and edge-finish requirements |
For dense reinforcement or a clean finished edge, assess a suitable diamond coring system. Select HERCULES by DREPS’s stated concrete and masonry applications and the approved machine setup.

Diameter, Reach and Machine Selection
Begin with the required opening diameter and wall thickness. Next confirm the exact holder, usable cutting reach and the hammer manufacturer’s permitted core-cutter diameter. An SDS-Max connection identifies the holder; it does not by itself establish the machine’s capacity for every cutter size.
A useful market example is Makita E-20155: Ø80 mm, 550 mm overall length, SDS-Max. Makita describes an integrated carbide-tipped core cutter that works without an additional centring drill. These are dimensions for that Makita article; DREPS HERCULES lengths should be confirmed against the ordered version.
| Product reference | Diameter | Length / order check |
|---|---|---|
| DREPS HERCULES | Ø45–80 mm range | Confirm shank and usable / overall length for the selected version |
| Makita E-20155 | Ø80 mm | 550 mm overall; confirm usable reach separately |
DREPS and DreBo: What Is the Connection?
DREPS GmbH and DreBo Werkzeugfabrik GmbH are distinct company names in Altshausen, Germany, with historical technical personnel connections. DREPS describes itself as a second-generation family business and names Christian Dreps as general manager. DREPS company profile · DREPS company details
DreBo’s ownership followed a different path. Atlas Copco announced its acquisition in 2003 and named Markus Dreps, son of the founder, as the incoming general manager. DreBo’s history records its move to TTI in 2005. TTI’s 2025 annual report lists DreBo Werkzeugfabrik GmbH as 100% indirectly owned. Atlas Copco announcement · DreBo history · TTI 2025, note 50, p. 177
The historical engineering link is visible in patent DE102009023299B4, filed in 2009: Christian Dreps is named as a co-inventor, with DreBo as the patent holder. This is a personnel and development connection, rather than a product identity. For purchasing, keep the present manufacturer and article reference explicit. Patent publication
HERCULES is presented on DREPS’s own product site. A similar head on a Makita or HiKOKI catalogue page is useful for comparing tool architecture; an OEM supply relationship requires product-specific documentation.
Plan a Wall-Opening Range with Zhonghuan
We help distributors build wall-opening ranges around the actual job: substrate, reinforcement exposure, hammer platform, opening diameter and wall thickness. These inputs guide the choice between a hammer core cutter, a hollow TCT system and diamond coring.
Send the required diameters, usable reach, machine model and expected quantities. Our engineering team can define the suitable product configuration, sample plan and private-label packaging for your market.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the DREPS HERCULES diameter range?
DREPS lists Ø45–80 mm for openings in concrete, masonry, stone and sand-lime brick. Confirm the selected version’s shank and length when ordering.
Does “one-piece” mean a solid carbide tool?
It means an integrated tool layout. The illustrated cutter has carbide cutting elements supported by a steel body and shaft.
Are DREPS and DreBo the same company?
They are distinct companies with historical technical personnel connections. DREPS names Christian Dreps as its manager; TTI’s 2025 accounts list DreBo as a wholly indirectly owned subsidiary.
Is 550 mm overall length the drilling depth?
No. Overall length includes the machine connection and other non-working sections. Confirm usable reach separately; 550 mm is the published overall length of Makita E-20155.
