Key Specification / Takeaways

  • 01. FlatPoint combines concentrated breaking with the directional control of a flat working edge.
  • 02. TE-SX FP 36 is 360 mm long, 34 mm wide and uses TE-S; its single-piece item number is 2452557.
  • 03. Longitudinal relief channels support debris release, while inductive hardening supports impact durability.

Hilti TE-SX FP brings the breaking action of a point and the directional control of a flat chisel into one working end. The TE-SX FP 36 shown here is a 360 mm TE-S chisel with a 34 mm working width. At Zhonghuan, we examine how its front edge, longitudinal ribs and relief channels work together during concrete and masonry demolition.

FlatPoint: penetration and directional control in one profile

Hilti describes FlatPoint as a dual-action design. The front is a short, straight working edge supported by shaped faces and ribs. It concentrates the initial contact more tightly than a broad scaling blade, while presenting a defined edge that the operator can align with the required removal direction. This is the useful combination: start a local fracture, then guide the next bite along an edge or channel without changing the insert for every step.

In the supplied front and side views, the working section changes with the viewing angle. The edge, raised ribs and recessed passages form one continuous body. That visible geometry helps explain the intended control; it does not require a separate pointed tip attached to a flat blade.

Longitudinal channels and release from the material

The long recesses run back from the working end between raised ribs. Hilti links these built-in dust channels and the specialised geometry to reduced jamming. Read mechanically, the recessed spaces give broken mineral material room to move beside the tool, while the ribs define where the steel meets the surrounding concrete. The profile therefore addresses penetration and release together.

These channels provide clearance for fragments; collection of airborne dust at the work face still comes from the machine’s extraction attachment and vacuum. The masonry application photo shows an extraction hood around the insert. The channels and the hood serve different parts of the same operation.

Inductive hardening and impact durability

Hilti specifies inductive hardening to improve resistance to wear, bending and mushrooming at the struck end. For a demolition insert, useful durability means preserving the working shape while the body and connection withstand repeated impact. The visible ribs explain the geometry; the hardening claim explains a separate part of the product construction.

TE-S shank, dust cap and machine fit

TE-SX FP uses TE-S. The rear shank, its longitudinal recesses and the black dust cap can be seen in the complete product view. Select a breaker with the matching TE-S holder and follow that machine’s insert requirements. TE-Y/SDS-Max and TE-H/HEX 28 are separate connection systems; similar-looking grooves do not make their inserts interchangeable.

The black cap sits at the holder entrance and helps shield that area from debris. Its role is separate from the steel shank’s impact transmission and retention. The red sleeve in the photographs is packaging for the connection end; remove it for installation.

Concrete breaking and masonry channelling

  • Breaching concrete: initiate local fractures and remove material progressively around an opening or demolition boundary.
  • Channelling in concrete: align the working edge with the required channel and advance in controlled steps.
  • Brick and block removal: work progressively through the masonry, with extraction positioned around the work face where the machine supports it.

The value of FlatPoint is clearest when a task moves repeatedly between local penetration and directional removal. A wide scraping blade still has a different role when the objective is lifting a broad layer of mortar, tile or residue.

Choosing length and keeping the connection ready

The Hilti UK family page lists 360, 500 and 700 mm lengths at 34 mm width. Choose length around access, operating position and the required reach. The supplied physical examples are TE-SX FP 36 at 360 mm. For installation and continued use, keep the shank clean, apply the lubricant specified by the machine instructions and check normal retention before starting work.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main feature of FlatPoint?

Hilti combines the penetration behaviour of a point with the directional control of a flat chisel in one working-end profile.

Which interface does TE-SX FP use?

TE-S. Match the actual machine holder; TE-Y/SDS-Max and TE-H/HEX 28 belong to separate connection systems.

What are the dimensions of TE-SX FP 36?

Overall length is 360 mm and working width is 34 mm. The single-piece item number shown on the supplied label is 2452557.

Do the longitudinal channels replace a dust extractor?

They provide relief space for broken material. Collecting airborne dust requires the appropriate extraction equipment for the machine and task.
